Availability
The IES-5000, the Flagship of ZyXEL IP DSLAM products, is a chassis-based Central Office system. Equipped with a full-duplex non-blocking gigabit backplane, dual power modules, high-port-density DSL line cards, failover-enabled Management, and Switch cards ,as well as IP-centric QoS and Security features, the IES-5000 provides 384 DSL ports in a frame and delivers residential and business broadband services at the same time. It allows ISPs and Telco operators to increase their customer base and the average revenue per user (ARPU) easily.
 
Support large amount of DSL subscribers with limited space
ZyXEL’s IES-5000 is a 6.5RU-height and 10-slot chassis-based system with a separated 5RU splitter chassis. 2 of the 10 slots are reserved for Management and Switch cards, while the remaining 8 hold DSL line termination cards. All the DSL line cards contain 48 ports. A standard rack can house either 7 selves without a splitter chassis or 4 selves with a splitter chassis.
 
Provide hybrid and up-to-date DSL services on demand
Three hot swappable 48-port DSL line cards (ADSL2+ over POTS, ADSL2+ over ISDN and G.SHDSL.bis) are available. The ADSL2+ over POTS and the ADSL2+ over ISDN provide subscribers with asymmetric transmission bandwidth up to 25Mbps/1.2Mbps. The G.SHDSL.bis provides symmetric transmission bandwidth of 4.8Mbps per port and port bonding features of 9.6Mbps per 2 ports, as well as 20Mbps per 4 ports.
 
Construct robust and flexible network infrastructure easily
The Management and Switch card has 4 GE ports for uplink & subtending. Using the subtending function, the IES-5000 can be cascaded in the rack of a central office, or be connected to remote IES products in the form of tree, ring, or daisy chain as needed. The uplinks can operate as a traffic aggregation trunk or act as a 1+1 redundant mode. Additionally, two Management and Switch cards can have a failover configuration setting. The switchover time from the failed card to the standby card can be less than 1 second.
 
Support triple play services to residential users without further cost
The IES-5000 provides complete ATM Quality-of-Service (UBR/VBR/CBR) support in the line cards and IP Quality-of-Service (Packet classification/Rate Limiting/Queue Scheduling) in the Network Termination cards. Sophisticated PVC to VLAN bridging and aggregation enables end-to-end Quality-of-Service and various service allocation and provisioning. Additionally, the IES-5000 supports non-blocking traffic forwarding and multicast functions. It supports 256 multicast groups and 384 copies per group. More than 30 multicast IGMP join/leave requests can be handled per second. The maximum channel zapping processing time is less than 250ms. All the features enable ISPs/Telco operators to provide High Speed Internet, VoIP, Near VOD, Broadcast TV and TV on demand, etc easily.
 
Support symmetric VPN services to business customers with least cost
With the IES-5000, ISPs/Telco operators can provide a symmetric transmission pipe through G.SHDSL.bis line cards to customers. The symmetric VPN connection can have bandwidths of 4.8 Mbps, 9.6 Mbps, or even 19.2Mbps with lease line quality, in terms of security and Quality-of-Service. The provisioning time and cost are also much less than that of traditional TDM lease lines.
 
Guarantee physical and operational safety to keep system constant running
ZyXEL IES-5000 guarantees physical safety by coming equipped with voltage, temperature and FAN speed sensors. If any of the sensors predicts abnormal situations, the LED display and corresponding alarms alert you to the situation. Thermal cutoff protection is also supported when the system temperature is over the configured threshold, the system will shut down automatically. For the operational safety, the IES-5000 provides anti MAC/IP address spoofing, broadcast storm prevention, MAC count limiting, and policy-based packet filtering.
 
Equip OAM&P tools to efficiently support whole sale business
ZyXEL’S IES-5000 provides the management interface for the local console port, Web-based EMS, Telnet, and SNMP v1/v2-based EMS (NetAtlas). Included in all the management functions are Alarm and Status Surveillance, Configuration management, Performance management, and Fault management. The IES-5000 comes equipped with legal administrators that are divided into three levels. The first level user has full administrative. The second level user has all the privileges as the first level one, except for creating/deleting additional legal administrators. The third level user has limited administrative authority, which is configured by first level users. Telco operators can easily take advantage of the mechanism to do whole sale business to CLECs and ISPs.
